To Lead their BEST Lives!
Thru Eastern Asian Medicine & Acupuncture, because Healthy Women make WORLD go round.
Acupuncture is like getting a tune-up for your car. It corrects underlying imbalances in Organ Systems and/or Meridian Pathways, while restoring vital communication between Organ Systems via Meridian, Lou-connecting and Divergent Pathways. This allows your unique body to operate at its optimum level of performance.
"More than 10 million Acupuncture treatments are administered annually in United States. Its rise in popularity .. can be attributed to its effectiveness in pain management and in part due to the fact that [formal] scientific studies have begun to prove its efficacy." --"Acupuncture Past, Present & Future", in the journal, Global Advances in Medicine
In short, Acupuncture allows you to take charge of your health by helping to correct the imbalances underlying disease processes (e.g., Digestive Issues, Sinus Issues, Joint, Back and Muscle Pain, Hypertension, Insomnia). What’s more Acupuncture & EAM treatments (a.k.a. "Traditional Chinese Medicine") are individually tailored to meet your unique needs. For this reason, five different patients with the same Western Medicine diagnosis --of say Diabetes-- would each receive a completely different set of acupuncture points and/or additional treatment modalities. One size doesn't fit all in our medicine!
It is also important to note that Acupuncture treatments address not only the physical being of a person, the Body; They also address the Mind & Spirit, thereby effectively treating the whole being of each unique individual.
The beauty of Acupuncture and its companion treatment modalities (e.g., moxibustion, fire cupping, Tuina, gua sha, electro-acupuncture, Qi Gong and herbal) is that these treatments are affordable, safe, non-invasive and highly effective alternatives to Western Medicine pharmaceuticals and surgical interventions. What's more, Acupuncture is fabulous for pain management!
Acupuncture and its related treatment modalities are able to address a wide variety of health conditions, including: Pain Management, Blood Pressure Issues, Headaches & Migraines, Hormone Imbalances, Infertility, Digestive Issues, Insomnia and so much more! We can also help to manage: PTSD, Anxiety, Grief, Stress, Depression, Lack of Focus and/or Motivation. Acupuncture works wonderfully in tandem with other alternative therapies (e.g., massage, chiropractic, energy work). It can also provide a wonderful adjunct therapy to psychoanalytic therapy and counseling.
Rebalancing your Body, Mind & Spirit can also help to strengthen your immune system, which is of vital importance now that we are entering "Cold & Flu" season, with potentially another strain of Covid-19.
It doesn’t have to be either or, when it comes to deciding whether to use Acupuncture & EAM vs. Western Medicine. The two approaches, when combined, offer the patient the BEST of both worlds. We truly believe that Integrative Medicine --combining alternative medicine options with traditional Western Medicine-- is the FUTURE of medicine. In fact, EAM & Acupuncture work beautifully to assist with physical therapy and post-surgical recovery, and we can help with a wide variety of other health conditions.

While we are a women's-centered practice, we do also treat men and everyone else **. We can help with conditions like Sciatica, Back, Hip, Knee or Joint Pain, Digestive Issues, Hypertension, PTSD/Anxiety, Insomnia, Tinnitus, Headaches, Stroke and Post-operative Recovery, and more.
**Important Note** - Our treatments are based on basic Biology, so when we say "women": we mean XX chromosomes. When we say "men": we mean XY chromosomes. This specificity in language is NOT in any way meant to be discriminatory. It is simply reflecting the SCIENCE behind our medicine. Our treatments are based upon your Biology. We absolutely respect everyone's right to choose their unique personal identifiers. That being said, our practice specializes in treating individuals with XX chromosomes.
Did you know that electro-acupuncture can actually help regrow cartilage in deteriorating joints? If sufficient cartilage remains (verified by imaging), we may be able to help you avoid a surgical intervention.

Michelle Renee Cominsky is degreed Electrical Engineer. An undiagnosed auto-immune condition left her with severe joint pain and digestive issues that derailed her life several years back. Acupuncture literally saved her life! Inspired by her own healing experience and a remarkable recovery, Renee decided to undertake training and Board Certification in Acupuncture & Eastern Asian Medicine (EAM) [Title as per WA State License]. She is now Board Certified and Licensed.
Renee has just recently relocated to the greater Salt Lake City area, from Washington State. Renee is passionate about helping others find healing thru Acupuncture & EAM. She is excited to be helping to expand alternative healthcare options in the Salt Lake City area and is looking forward to sharing the life-saving, healing and truly transformational power of EAM & Acupuncture with others. She is particularly interested in helping women find relief for health conditions they mistakenly believe they must just "suffer silently through" (e.g., painful periods, heavy periods, irregular periods, PMS symptoms, menopause symptoms, hormone imbalance, endometriosis pain, infertility and more). Women are the caretakers, the nurturers. Women give so much to their family and friends, often putting themselves and their needs last. This is especially true when it comes to prioritizing women's health. When women are running on empty, it is hard --if not impossible-- to meet the demands of daily life. By contrast, when women are healthy, balanced and taken care of, they have the energy, mental and spiritual focus needed to help and care for others, thereby helping to make the world go round!
Renee currently has three and a half years of experience treating patients. She loves learning and is constantly taking new courses to expand her knowledge base even further, so that she may offer the best care to her patients. Renee is currently taking a new course on the latest Japanese protocols for treating pain and injury (e.g., shoulder pain, neck pain, back, hip and knee pain).
"I have been treated by Renee on several occasions, and she is always extremely gentle, professional and very knowledgeable. My suffering from grief-related anxiety and stress, was causing hypertension...With just two treatments I felt remarkably improved. I will definitely continue receiving treatment. I highly recommend her services!" ~Susan A.
"Michelle is an amazing acupuncturist. She is very knowledgeable, caring, and always made me feel comfortable. I was going through some stress which had affected my sleep. I was also dealing with shoulder problems for years on both sides. After a couple treatments I noticed my pain getting better and my sleep improving. She took time helping me with all my concerns and had helpful recommendations for what I can do at home on my own. She is very talented and has a gentle technique. I am so grateful for her and cannot recommend her enough. She is a gem! Michelle, thank you!" ~Sharon K.
"I am a 67-year-old woman. I suffered a broken leg in a ‘hit from behind’ ski injury. This was the start of leg and knee problems for me. The upside of this injury was it pushed me to get into the gym to start training to be fit and to help to improve my leg recovery. I became a power weightlifter and I have been doing this sport for about 12 years now, currently deadlifting at 265 lbs. My sports activity, however, coupled with my advancing age seem to have taken a serious toll on my knees to the extent that increasing knee pain and lack of ideal mobility was not only interfering my ability to do my sport training, but it was even beginning to interfere with my ability to complete everyday activities (e.g., walk up and down the stairs, walk the dog, outdoor recreation). Recently after consulting Western Medicine doctors about my knees, they immediately recommended surgery on both knees or to begin stem-cell therapy. Both of the latter are costly options. Not to mention the potential for a less than ideal recovery after knee surgery which would severely limit my ability to remain active (i.e., brother had knee surgery and his mobility is almost non-existent). Initially, I was devastated with this news.
Then I began to search to search for alternative treatment options. When I searched for acupuncturists near me, I found Empowerment Acupuncture Health. I was intrigued by their website, so I scheduled my initial consultation. Now I have tried massage therapy, trigger-point and dry-needling for my knees. These all produced short-term relief from pain, with limited impact on mobility and the benefits of these treatments were short-lived at best. But I was willing to give EAM & Acupuncture a try. When I got up off the table after my very first EAM Acupuncture treatment, I couldn’t believe it: my pain was actually gone, and mobility was markedly improved. I nearly cried!
Renee was extremely professional and very detailed in her intake, doing a thorough medical history and even covering my prescription medications, vitamins & minerals, and other alternative treatments I had tried. We worked together to review my supplements and she even suggested some herbal supplements and dietary changes that would benefit my condition, as well as some lifestyle changes to improve my overall health. I have been on a fantastic journey now these past two months, with the goal of helping my body to regrow the cartilage in my knees as the end-goal. [I have baseline imaging to refer back to, for when I go in to have my knees reimaged to asses my progress.] But the pain in my knees and the increased mobility have already given my life back again! My workouts are dynamic, and I have even been able to resume some of my powerlifting regimen –i.e., exercises that won’t jeopardize my ongoing recovery.
Communication was another unique feature of my treatment at Empowerment Acupuncture Health. My feedback and input into the treatment process was essential in the practitioner crafting a treatment that uniquely supported my individual needs. With EAM & Acupuncture treatments, I feel like a valued participant in my care and not just a mere passive observer.
Honestly, if I had not reached out to Renee, I would still be fighting an endless and costly uphill battle going the recommended Western Medicine route. Knowledge is so powerful and taking charge of our own health and wellness with lifestyle changes, non-invasive (i.e., non-surgical!), safe and effective, reasonably priced treatment options should be the ideal for both preventative and treatment in healthcare. In short, it is so amazing to wake up each day and to be able to move around freely and without pain to do the things I want to do –when I want to do them!— in my life once again. Hope has been restored!" ~Debbie G.
Update on Debbie G. 7/2024 -- Debbie is now playing pickleball and cycling.
“I have had tinnitus off and on for almost about a year now. High pitched ringing in my ears that comes and goes. Last Spring the tinnitus was accompanied by a feeling of fullness in my ears. I have had wax build-up before, so I scheduled a cleaning for my ears with an ENT. When they looked into my ears they said there was no wax obstructing the ear canal or pressing on the ear drum. So the doctor ran a bunch of hearing tests, but found nothing wrong with my hearing overall. They said tinnitus was just a normal part of aging and that I would have to learn to live with it. The doctor suggested meditation exercises, brown noise and indicated if things got really bad they could prescribe prescription pain/anxiety meds, but I am no fan of prescription of medication, unless absolutely necessary.
Doing some research online I found research was showing that acupuncture had proven helpful in helping to address tinnitus if caught in the early stages, so I scheduled some acupuncture treatment sessions. The practitioner informed me that with tinnitus it is important to begin treatment as soon as possible for the best (resolution) outcome. After even just one treatment, I felt remarkably better .. experiencing a reduction in the volume of the ringing. With a subsequent treatment the frequency of ringing began to reduce. After 9 treatment sessions the ringing was completely GONE and it stayed gone for a full six months after treatment. Six months later, however, stress seemed to bring the tinnitus back. So I returned for acupuncture treatments, with Renee. Once again, with treatments two and three times a week, the tinnitus is completely GONE again. It is truly remarkable to me that EAM & Acupuncture is so highly effective in treating a debilitating condition like tinnitus, especially when western medicine says there is “nothing you can do, but accept tinnitus as a normal part of aging process.” I cannot thank Renee enough for helping me find my balance and literally my peace of mind – no more constant, debilitating ringing!” ~Marcy A.
“Renee was great! I really didn’t believe that acupuncture could help me with my shoulder pain, but wasn’t keen to cortisone injections [as the alternative]. I was totally wrong about acupuncture. I’m pain-free after only two treatments. Thanks again, Renee :-) “ ~Ken C.
Q: Do Acupuncture needles hurt?
A: No, they do NOT! In fact, 20 of our needles can fit in the opening of a Western Medicine hypodermic needle used for blood draws and injections. The tingling sensation patients feel after needle insertion (called "Deqi") only lasts for a few seconds. Deqi signals the mobilization of Qi which is necessary for treatment to be effective.
Q: How long do treatments last?
A: Treatments typically last about 45 minutes up to an hour and 30 minutes per session, with 30 minutes allocated for needle retention in a relaxing and soothing environment. Many patients will even fall asleep during treatments.
Q: How many treatments will it take before my condition resolves?
A: EAM & Acupuncture rebalances your body so it can heal itself. As such, this natural healing can take longer than the feel good effects of pharmaceutical interventions --which often only mask symptoms as opposed to providing longer term relief and true healing. The actual number of sessions required to heal varies depending upon the type of condition and also the underlying constitution of the patient (e.g., age, health history). Acute conditions are often resolved in two to eight visits, while chronic conditions will take longer to resolve. Chronic conditions healing requires a commitment to weekly treatment visits in order to obtain results. Patients should not expect they will come in for just one visit and then be miraculously healed. I strongly recommend a minimum of 3 visits before you judge what our medicine has to offer. Your feedback after each treatment session is essential in helping us craft a care plan that will be most effective for treating your condition. In this way, with EAM & Acupuncture the patient plays a vital and active participation role in their health (i.e., diet modifications, lifestyle changes, supplements/herbals and Qi Gong). After two visits, your practitioner will give you a diagnosis and a recommended treatment plan, including the projected number of visits that your treatment will entail. Patients should notice gradual improvement with each subsequent visit. Patient treatment progress is then evaluated midway through the treatment regimen.
Q: Can Acupuncture help improve Breast Health?
A: Yes. Acupuncture can help to balance hormones. It also works to clear stagnation, reduce inflammation and helps to manage the stresses we encounter in daily life. This restores balance within the body's Organ Systems and Meridian Pathways which has a direct positive impact on overall breast health.
Q: How much do Acupuncture treatments cost?
A: On average treatments cost less than the cost of a single massage. The typical doctors office visit lasts about 5-15 minutes and costs about $200.00. Our treatments are individually tailored and we give you our undivided attention for a full 45 minutes to an hour. Ask about our rewards program to receive 30% off one treatment, after each five visits.
Q: Can Acupuncture & EAM work to complement other alternative medicine treatments?
A: Absolutely, YES. Acupuncture is a wonderful complement to other alternative medicine options, like Chiropractic care. We can also work to assist with physical therapy and post-surgical recovery.
Q: Does fire cupping really work to help athletes and body builders?
A: Yes, it can. In fact, if you were paying attention to the last Olympic coverage, you might have seen athletes with cups on while waiting on the sidelines. Cupping helps to draw blood (carrying oxygen & nutrients) and interstitial fluid into muscles and surrounding tissue to promote recovery and increased muscle mass which in turn helps to boost performance.
Q: Are all treatments with Acupuncture needles alike?
A: One common misconception is that dry needling and trigger point therapies are true Acupuncture in and of themselves. They are not. These therapies have been co-opted from Eastern Asian Medicine (EAM) and while they may produce short term results (e.g., temporary reduction in pain and/or relaxation of affected muscles), these treatments will not unlock the powerful healing of traditional Acupuncture & EAM treatments. Even primary care doctors dabbling in Acupuncture & EAM may not be as effective in their treatments. This is because it is only through the daily use and dedicated practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM - The foundation for Acupuncture & EAM) that the practitioner is able to reach beyond mere needle insertion to access the powerful connections between Body Organ Systems, Meridian Pathways and the Eight Extraordinary Vessels, delving in the subtle nuances of point combinations in order to unlock the Body’s amazing power to Heal itself. Thus, in order to experience the amazingly powerful and truly transformative healing offered by TCM Acupuncture - Which corrects imbalances in order to produce long term results - You will need to receive treatment from a practitioner with a dedicated practice, who is NCCAOM Board Certified in Acupuncture & EAM, trained in and practicing TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and other related EAM modalities (e.g., gua sha, Tuina, Japanese Meridian Therapy, moxibustion, fire cupping and even electro-acupuncture which is great for chronic pain and even joint regeneration) on a daily basis.
Q: What is Maintenance Care?
A: Maintenance Care is KEY! It is preventative care, consisting of routine EAM & Acupuncture treatments --usually given once or twice a month-- where treatments are designed to keep your body organ systems balanced in order help the body maintain optimum health in an effort to prevent future disease, while also helping to minimize risk of re-injury. Everyone has an underlying body constitution based on age, gender, genetics and lifestyle choices. Regular acupuncture, via Maintenance Care, helps to correct any arising imbalances within the body's organ systems, thereby playing a vital role in the prevention of (future) disease. In EAM, we aim to correct imbalances within the body BEFORE they lead into serious disease processes on down the line, thereby eliminating the need for drastic interventions (i.e., surgical or pharmaceutical ).
We are committed to making organic, real-world connections that will ultimately benefit the community, in which we physically live and work, by empowering individuals to regain control of their optimum health.
If you have group of people that would like to host a Community Acupuncture Clinic, give us a call and we will see if we can work to set one up for you (e.g., assisted living facility, scouting group, military support group, at risk teen group, women's clubs/support group, etc.).
